Organisers of Taste of Edinburgh, Scotland’s most renowned food and drink festival have confirmed that this year’s event was a huge success, with record numbers of visitors attending the festival over the weekend.
The event served up a recipe for success, and with Summer sunshine thrown in for good measure, the festival was a sell-out as record numbers of visitors arrived at Inverleith Park to sample signature dishes from 14 city restaurants, learn tips from tops chefs and check out premier produce from Scotland’s finest food and drink suppliers.
Top TV chefs; Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Jean-Christophe Novelli, and local talent Tom Kitchin and Nick Nairn, were just some of the highlights of Taste of Edinburgh from Friday 29th May – Sunday 31st May.
Festival Director, Silvia Dorigo, says: "Since Taste of Edinburgh began in 2007, it has gone from strength to strength. This year was a record breaker for us; we were completely full on Saturday and had fantastic weather over the entire weekend.
“This year, we introduced a new Sunday evening session which proved to be a great success. There was a fantastic atmosphere as Edinburgh’s residents and visitors gathered to sample the city’s finest fare.”
The Taste of Edinburgh festival this year attracted over than 20,000 visitors over the weekend. Sun-seekers sipped their way through more than 3,000 Appleton Estate Mojitos, indulged in 2,500 Stewart Tower Dairy Perthshire ice-creams, munched 2,200 scallops from The Tower, as well as tasting thousands of signature dishes from 14 of Edinburgh's restaurants.
Visitors supported local producers and suppliers as well as local chef talent, with Edinburgh chef Tom Kitchin attracting one of the biggest crowds of the weekend.
For discerning foodies who got a flavour for the festival, fans can still buy tickets to Taste of London, where they can sample from some of the world’s finest eating establishments gathering in Regent’s Park from 18th –21st June.
Partnered with VisitScotland, Scottish Enterprise and The City of Edinburgh Council, Taste of Edinburgh 2009 offered a culinary experience that gave visitors the opportunity to sample “taster dishes” from 14 of Edinburgh’s top restaurants, as the chefs worked for three days in their on-site demonstration kitchens.
Taste of Edinburgh raises the curtain to a series of the worldwide food and drink festivals across three cities in the U.K. - Edinburgh, London and Birmingham. As well as sampling cooking from the best culinary talent in the country, festival goers can eat and drink from up to 100 speciality food and drink suppliers.
